It’s that time already, huh? You’ve followed the steps on how to get a driver’s license in Alabama so far, and now you’re ready to go visit the Department of Public Safety (DPS) office. When you apply for your first learner license or driver license, there are some specific documents you need to bring. Double check your paperwork so you don’t have to wait in line twice!

For a Learner License (Age 15), Bring:
- U.S. birth certificate (No photocopies, please!)
- Social Security card
- Proof of school enrollment or graduation
- Cash or card to pay for the fees ($5 for testing and $36.25 for the license)

For a Learner or Driver License (Age 16 or Older), Bring:
- Two types of identification. At least one needs to be from the Primary ID list. At least one needs to have your photo on it, OR you can bring 3 forms of non-photo ID.
- Social Security card
- School enrollment form or proof of graduation (if you’re 16-18 years old)
- Cash or card to pay for the fees ($5 for testing and $36.25 for the license)
If You’re Taking the Driving Test, Also Bring:
- A vehicle that would pass inspection
- A licensed driver to accompany you
- Proof of auto insurance
