New Rules for Teens, Same Rules for Adults

Starting July 1, 2025, Florida teens under 18 must take the new Driver Education and Traffic Safety (DETS) course instead of TLSAE.
If you're 18 or older, TLSAE is the course you need—and always has been.

Reminder:
Adults are required to take the Florida Knowledge Exam (permit test) in person at a licensing service center. This has always been the case for 18+ applicants. Online permit testing is only available to teens under 18, with notarized parental consent.
