5 Steps to Getting a License in Texas
1. Enroll in Aceable

2. Complete 6 hours of drivers ed
Finish the course, pass the 30-question DPS written knowledge test, and get your Certificate of Completion emailed to you.
3. Visit the DPS
After earning your completion certificate, gather your documents and head to the DPS. You can choose to get a permit, or go ahead and schedule your Driving Exam.
4. Complete the Impact Texas Course
Within 90 days before your driving exam, complete the free 1-hour Impact Texas Adult DriversITAD Impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov course. This applies to everyone — even adults 25+. You'll need to present the completion certificate at your driving exam.
5. Ace Your Driving Exam & Get Licensed!
Pass your driving exam and you're officially a licensed Texas driver. You've got this!
How to Get Your Drivers License as an Adult in Texas
Who needs Texas Adult Drivers Ed?
Texas requires every new driver between 18 and 24 to complete a 6-hour TDLR-approved adult drivers ed course before getting a license. Drivers 25 and older are not required to take the course but often do, because passing the in-course written test means they can skip the written test at DPS.
