50 Things Every L.A. Teen Should Have On Their Summer Bucket List

Summer is in full swing and you might be struggling to find new things to do. Don’t give up and hit the couch just yet, bb. Aceable is here to save the day!   1. Nothing says summer like watching a movie in a graveyard. No, seriously. Cinespia is one of L.A.’s most beloved traditions. This summer, join the hundreds of people packing out Hollywood Forever Cemetery to enjoy crazy good movies like The Sandlot, Grease, and Kill Bill.
  2.  Summer gets hot in So-Cal, so go take a dip in Malibu Creek State Park’s Lava Rock Pools. If you really feel like getting crazy, cannonball off of the site’s infamous 20 ft rock wall!
  3. Add a little culture to your summer by hitting up Griffith Park for Shakespeare in the Park. Grab some friends and go watch good ol’ Billy Shakespeare’s best work. Your English teacher would be so proud. And did I mention it’s free?
  4. If you haven’t done the Hollywood sign hike yet, drop what you’re doing and go do it. Whether you’ve grown up in LA or consider yourself a tourist, everyone needs to see the view from Hollywood’s iconic sign at least once.

  1. Go get your shop on in Santa Monica at the Third Street Promenade. With over 200 shops, crazy good restaurants, and amazing views of downtown Santa Monica and the beach, you really can’t go wrong by spending your day at the Promenade.
  2. Looking to get some sun and some exercise? Biking from Venice to Manhattan Beach is sure to get the blood pumping. Plus, you know that view will be 100.
  3. Take bae to Echo Park Lake for some romantic pedal boating. Whether it’s your first date or you’re high school sweethearts, the lake, the fountain, and the killer view of downtown L.A. is sure to set the mood and earn you some brownie points.
  4. What’s summer without a music festival? Hit up FYF Fest for all your faves. Kendrick Lamar, Beach House, and LCD Soundsystem? Yes pls.
  5. Speaking of music, another summer must is grabbing your friends (and a picnic) and heading to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl.

  1. Where all my foodies at? Downtown L.A.’s Grand Central Market is dedicated to showcasing delicious cuisine from L.A.’s many diverse cultures. They also have live music on Saturdays, trivia nights, and outdoor movies. Getcha some!
  2. Road trips are the ultimate summer activity imo. Big Bear Lake makes for a great mini-road trip for you and your crew. Nestled in the mountains about 2 ½ hours outside of L.A., Big Bear Lake is an oasis for summer activities. Swimming, camping, hiking, and a quaint af downtown called Big Bear Village. Brb heading there right now.
  3. Big Harry Potter fan? You know you are. So don’t be a muggle–head on over to the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios for a fresh mug of butterbeer or a trip on the Hogwarts Express. Just try to avoid any Slytherins, okay?
  4. Explore the Cave of Munits. Sounds kinda creepy, but trust us, it’s awesome. Located less than a mile into El Escorpian Park, a trip to this cave offers hiking, rock climbing, and just generally feeling like Indiana Jones. Find detailed directions here.
  5. Enjoy a night under the stars with bae at Griffith Observatory. Griffith is a classic L.A. staple for tourists and locals alike.
  6. Ride the Pacific Wheel. This world-famous ferris wheel is located in Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier and is the perfect way to take in the beautiful views of Santa Monica and the ocean. Pro Tip: Take your ride around sunset for A+ views.

  1. Head to Long Beach to catch a movie by the ocean. Moonlight Movies on the Beach has a new movie for you every week through August 30th. Some of their upcoming flicks include: Jaws, Princess Bride, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  2. We know, we know. You want to get a little wild this summer. And what better way to do that than joining a wolf pack? Seriously! Take a tour of Shadowland Foundation to meet, hang with, play with, and feed their wolves.
  3. Baseball games are the ultimate summer activity. Grab a hot dog and catch a Dodgers game!
  4. Go get your pick on at Riley’s Farm. Summer is prime time to get some super fresh strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
  5. As of August, the NFL will officially be back in L.A. That’s hella exciting! Grab your Rams gear and tickets now to prepare for their August 13th return home to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
  6. Give your summer a little culture with a free trip to the LACMA. Yep, free. All Los Angeles county residents get into the museum for $0 after 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays!
  7. Grab your friends and go bowling. Pinz in Studio City (voted one of America’s coolest bowling alleys by Travel + Leisure Magazine) offers 32 brand new lanes and a state-of-the-art arcade with 40+ arcade games. Doesn’t get any better than that.
  8. What’s better than going to a concert? Going to a concert on the beach. And you can do just that every Thursday night from 7pm-10pm at the Santa Monica Pier starting July 7th. The weekly concert series, Twilight Concerts, lasts until Sept 8th. That’s a whole lotta music.
  9. Surfboards, skateboards, and bikes, oh my! Road trip to Huntington Beach for the day to attend the Vans’ US Open of Surfing. Enjoy watching surfers, skaters, and BMX bikers compete in the end-of-July tournament.
  10. Two words: The Grove. Every Friday night, The Grove’s Original Farmers Market has free live music and as many food booths as you can possibly handle. From 7-9pm, that dance floor is all you, bb.
  11. Go H.A.M. on some food at the LA Food Fest at Exposition Park. This three-day event will allow you access to food from 100 different vendors and award-winning restaurants. Yasss.

  1. Get hardcore with the L.A. Derby Dolls. If you’ve never been to a roller derby game, you gotta go. These bad asses on roller skates do NOT mess around.
  2. Visit the coolest bookstore in the city (maybe the world?), The Last Bookstore. Located in downtown L.A., The Last Bookstore is California’s largest new and used book and record store.
  3. This next one’s a given. How can you live in L.A. and NOT take a day trip to Disneyland? ‘Nuff said.

  1. Have an Olympics viewing party! The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics start on August 5th and will have us all obsessed.
  2. Do the most Hollywood thing ever–go to a movie premiere! Most premieres have areas for fans to hang out and watch the celebs arrive. Sometimes a lucky few fans will be given tickets to the premiere, or a celeb will come over and say hi. Aww yeah!
  3. Try every item on the In-N-Out Burger secret menu. Bet your mouth is watering just thinking about it.
  4. Step up your movie game by catching a flick at the Arclight Hollywood (or one of their other L.A. locations). The Arclight not only has props and costumes from some of your favorite movies in their lobby, but they also host Q&A screenings so you can watch the movie then hear from the directors and actors themselves. Pretty dope!
  5. Be on TV! Well, kind of. Your laugh can be on TV. Go to a live taping of one of your favorite shows. See how the magic happens on shows like Fuller House, 2 Broke Girls, and Girl Meets World.
  6. I know summer can be a time for laziness, but you probably want to do some good as well, right? Grab some friends and volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club to have a blast while also making a difference.
  7. Be a tourist in your own city and take a sightseeing bus tour. With Starline Tours, you can have fun with your friends, meet new people, and maybe learn a little something you didn’t already know about Los Angeles.
  8. Test your problem solving skills (and your patience) at Escape Room LA. You and your friends will be put in a room together, and it’s up to you to figure out how to escape before the time runs out. Good luck!
  9. Want to see how your favorite movies and TV shows got made? Take a tour of Warner Bros Studios in Burbank. You’ll see sets and props from movies like Spider-Man and Harry Potter, as well as TV shows like Friends, Gilmore Girls, and Ellen.
  10. Attempt the XXXL cheeseburger at Fatburger. This burger is monstrous. Can you handle it? We believe in you bb!

  1. Test your toughness at Warped Paintball Park. About an hour outside of Los Angeles, Warped offers individual or group paintball packages. They’ll even let you rent out their space for a private party. Get on thisss.
  2. Have a coffee date at the historic 101 Coffee Shop. This quaint diner has been featured in too many movies to count and has been a fave celeb hang out for decades.
  3. DOG DAY. Downtown L.A.’s Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Plaza is hosting their 10th Annual Dog Day. Bring your best animal bud for food, music, and pet-related vendors from around the area!
  4. Play mini-golf at Castle Park. Located in Sherman Oaks, Castle Park offers mini-golf, a sweet arcade, batting cages, and party planning. Perfect for a date night!
  5. What do Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy have in common? They all took improv classes at The Groundlings. This world-famous comedy school offers classes just for teens! Sign up now and who knows, maybe we’ll see you on Saturday Night Live one day.
