What to Bring to the Arizona MVD for a Drivers License

So you’ve taken Arizona drivers ed and are ready to hit the road now, huh? But before you can hop on those beautiful Arizona highways, you need to head to your local Arizona Motor Vehicle Division office to get your official learner permit or drivers license. In planning your trip, keep in mind that the Arizona MVD requires you to bring paperwork to prove your identity — you won’t be able to get a drivers license without it. Check out the list of forms that you absolutely must bring to the Arizona MVD below.

For a Graduated Instructor Permit (Age 15 and 6 Months)

  • Social Security number
  • Two documents proving identity or lawful presence. At least one must have a photo ID. Must be certified original copies. For a full list of acceptable documents, click here.
  • Fee of $7
  • Driver License/Identification Card application signed by a parent/guardian in front of a MVD agent

After the MVD agent reviews all your documents, you must pass a vision test and written knowledge exam. To prep for the exam, take a permit test prep course.

For a Graduated Drivers License (Age 16 and Up)

  • Graduated instructor permit
  • Social Security number

  • Fee of $25
  • Certificate of Completion from a drivers ed program or proof that you completed 30 hours of driving practice

After the MVD agent reviews all your documents, you must pass a driving test (also called a road test) before you are eligible to get your drivers license. For the driving test you must bring:

  • A vehicle in good condition that has up-to-date plates, registration and insurance

If you plan ahead and gather all the proper documents required by the Arizona MVD, you should have no problem getting your drivers license.
