What to Expect

New State Rules for Teen Drivers

Starting July 1, the TLSAE course will no longer count for Florida teens under 18. (If you have already enrolled in the TLSAE course, you must complete it by or before July 31) The new state-mandated course is DETS—and Aceable's version is built to help you finish fast and pass with confidence.
But heads up: This course requires a final exam.

About the DETS Course Final Exam

  • 50 multiple-choice questions randomly pulled from a 500-question bank
  • Must score 80% or higher to pass
  • If you fail, the state requires you to re-purchase and retake the entire course

The test is included at the end of your DETS course, and we’ll guide you through everything—no surprises.

What About the Florida Knowledge Exam (FL KE)?

As of now, the Florida Knowledge Exam (FL KE) remains unchanged.
The state has not confirmed whether it will be required for DETS students, but based on current guidance, it’s likely that:

  • The FL KE will still be required for first-time teen permit applicants
  • Adults taking DETS may or may not need to complete the FL KE (pending confirmation)

We’ll update this page the moment the state finalizes that guidance.
