Top 5 Memorial Day Activities for Teens in Los Angeles

Top 5 Memorial Day Activities for Teens in Los Angeles

Memorial Day is perhaps one of the most glorious weekends of the year. We get to honor our military heroes, partake in a three-day weekend, AND celebrate the start of summer. Needless to say, there’s a lot of fun to be had this weekend. Maybe too much fun? Because the choices are endless (especially in Los Angeles), we’ve compiled a list of five things we think you should do this weekend for maximum Memorial Day fun:

1. Fiesta Hermosa 2017 – Saturday, 5/27 – Monday, 5/29 (10 a.m – 6 p.m.)

What better way to kick off the summer than a festival on the beach? Hermosa Beach’s annual Memorial Day Fiesta Hermosa takes place at and all around the Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza. Dubbing itself the “largest arts and craft fair in Southern California,” this festival offers no shortage of things to do for you and your crew. The festival has about 300 vendors, featuring everything from ceramics and jewelry to painters and sculptors. And don’t forget the food court featuring foods from all over the world, as well carnival snacks like cotton candy, funnel cakes and caramel apples. Looking to earn some cuteness points with your boo? Take them to the petting zoo and watch them swoon!

2. Griffith Park “Old Zoo” Picnic – All weekend

Crowded beaches not your thing? Send out a group text and have everyone meet you at Griffith Park’s Old Zoo area for a Memorial Day picnic. Bring all your fave foods and maybe a frisbee or two for an afternoon that’s delicious and relaxing. You can also go explore all the old animal cages, which is equal parts amazing and creepy. Get more info on Griffith Park spots here.

3. “Back to the Future” Outdoor Screening – Saturday, 5/27 (5:30 p.m.)

Summer was meant for action movies and enjoying the outdoors, so why not kill two birds with one stone with Street Food Cinema’s “Back to the Future” screening? The outdoor screening will be held at the beautiful Verdugo Park in Glendale. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so you can enjoy food trucks and live music until the sun goes down and the movie goes up at 8:30 p.m.

 4. T.I. Live at The Belasco Theater – Monday, 5/29 (9 p.m.)

Whether we call him T.I., Tip, or Clifford Harris Jr., we all know and love him! This Memorial Day, T.I. (and some friends) will be playing at The Belasco Theater. So grab bae and go show off your rap skills! You can purchase tickets and see the full line-up here.

5. Point Dume State Beach – All weekend

Nothing says “three-day weekend” like an all-day beach hang. One of the prettiest (and least crowded) beaches is Malibu’s Point Dume State Beach. The beach offers a perfect spot to lay out, picnic, or knock back a few lemonades with your friends. If you’re feeling really adventurous, Point Dume also offers some killer views via its hiking trails.

Alright, go have fun, friends. Let us know which spots you chose!
