You know that moment when the squad talks about going somewhere cool together and then screams ROAD TRIP in unison? Well, we live for that moment. Because there is nothing more fun than hitting the road with your best friends, seeing new places, and making unforgettable memories. If you’re also part of the road trip fan club, or have always been wanting to try one out, we’ve come up with a few suggestions. So pack your bags, make a fresh playlist, and get that gas tank filled up.
For the Foodie
Nothing says good eats like the south. Start off in western Tennessee and get yourself some good old Memphis barbecue. Locals recommend Central BBQ or the Bar-B-Q Shop where you can find everything from traditional pulled pork on Texas toast to unconventional combinations like barbecue spaghetti. Next, head south to the Big Easy aka New Orleans where you will find cuisine reflecting the city’s Cajun, Creole, and French roots. Grab some powdered sugar beignets at Cafe du Monde for breakfast and some seafood packed gumbo at the Commander’s Palace Restaurant for lunch. Finally, make your way over to the great state of Texas to Houston where you can find an unlimited amount of quality mexican food. With the authenticity of a taco truck but the quality of a restaurant, try Tacos La Bala for barbacoa that falls apart before you take a bite.
For the Park Enthusiast
If you’re into the great outdoors and are seeking long hikes, swimming holes, and deep canyons, there’s no better place than the west coast. One option would be to start at the Grand Canyon and end in Moab, Utah. This 10-day, 862 mile trek will take you through the best canyons in the Southwest and allow you to hit 6 national parks. A second option would start in Jackson, Wyoming and end at Glacier National Park, Montana. This 600 mile route will let you see some of the country’s most iconic wildlife at Yellowstone National Park including buffalo, elk, and grizzly. When you pass through Missoula, stop and kayak at Brennan’s Wave at the downtown Missoula Waterpark and find a hot pie at Biga Pizza afterwards. Once you reach Glacier National Park, challenge yourself to complete the 16.8 mile hike to Lake Isabel- the jaggering cirque over the lake is worth every step.
For the Groupie
Music fests are more challenging to group together for one big trip since they’re spaced out throughout the year but you can still make the trip music focused. Bonaroo, a June four-day festival in Manchester, TN boasts a wide range of genres from indie rock to hip hop but takes place a short hour away from Nashville, TN. Make sure to hit up Music City either before or after your camping experience and see the music joints where some of the country’s most famous stars were born. On the west coast, you can coordinate a trip in between Hard Summer in Fontana, CA and Outside Lands in San Francisco. The two music fests are a week a part this August, giving you plenty of time to check out some Cali beaches in between.
Now, let’s yell it all together one last time: ROAD TRIPPP.
