  2. Ace a written test and get your learner's permit

  3. Get driving experience with an older licensed driver

  4. Take a driving skills test and pass

  5. Turn in all the paperwork to get your driver's license

Simple, right? Now let's look at where you need to go to start each of these steps.

Where to Apply for a Driver's License in Tulsa?

There are two DPS offices taking learner's permit and driver's license applications in Tulsa. They are:

  • Tulsa Eastgate Metropolex

    • 14002E 21st Street, Ste A Lower Level
      Tulsa, OK 74134

    • Open Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

    • To book an appointment or ask for information, call (918) 632-7700

  • West Tulsa Office

    • 3190 W 21st Street South
      Tulsa, OK 74107

    • Open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

    • To book an appointment or ask for information, call (918) 428-4030

Where Can I Take the Written Test in Tulsa?

Once you feel prepared for your written test, head to either of those DPS offices. Both the Tulsa Eastgate Metroplex and West Tulsa offices do knowledge tests.

You can show up unannounced for your written test. However, there's always a chance the DPS test center will be fully booked on that day. If that happens, you'll have to go back home and try again another day. That's a bummer and wastes your time, so it's best to call ahead to schedule a date and time for your test.

On top of that, you may choose to take your written test at a Tulsa CareerTechTesting Center, at 3638 S. Memorial Drive, OK 74145. This comes with a $25 fee and you will still need to go to the DPS for a vision test and to apply in person for your license. Make sure to, in advance, call (918) 828-5289 or book a time and date online through theexam registration portal.

Where Do I Take the Driving Test in Tulsa?

After getting your driving practice in, it's time for your skills test. Head to one of these DPS offices:

  • Tulsa Eastgate Metroplex

  • West Tulsa Office

  • West Tulsa Skill Testing Center

    • 3190 W 21st Street South
      Tulsa, OK 74107

Keep in mind that no exam place accepts walk-ins. This means you'll need to phone (405) 425-2196 ahead of time to book your time slot. Then, on the day of your appointment, show up and ace that test!

But because the driving test in Oklahoma is a bit unique, that's not your only option. Alternatively, you can take your driving test with an examiner certified by the state. So, instead of going to the DPS, you could go to the school where the examiner works. Then, take your driving test normally.

There is just one difference between taking the driving test at the DPS and at a private school: cost. While you can take the test for free at a DPS office, you have to pay a fee to do it with a certified examiner.
